Generally speaking, hearing aids are not wet. In the process of wearing hearing aids for the elderly, it is inevitable that they will get some sweat, dust, earwax and other things. These things will cause the hearing aids to become quiet, silent or even malfunction. Therefore, the elderly hearing aids must be cleaned regularly.

The Components of Hearing Aids And Ways of Use

A hearing aid is a small loudspeaker that amplifies the original inaudible sound, and then uses the residual hearing of the hearing impaired to send the sound to the auditory center of the brain and feel the sound. It is mainly composed of five parts: microphone, amplifier, earphone, power supply and volume control. Hearing aids are divided into air conduction hearing aids and bone conduction hearing aids according to the conduction mode; according to the use mode, they are classified into box-type, glasses-type, hairpin-type, back-a-ear, in-ear, canal, and deep-canal hearing aids.

Hearing Aid Cleaning

Hearing aid cleaning kits generally include tools: magnet steel needle brush, blowing balloon, wiping cloth, cleaning tank, cleaning sheet, cleaning spray, surgical scrub brushes, etc. The drying tool set generally includes tools: magnet steel needle brush, blowing balloon, wipe cloth, drying cake, drying can, etc. These tools are generally placed in a stainless steel instrument box. After preparing the tools, you have to remove the battery, clean the tubing (BTE only), clean the tip, clean the body and microphones, reattach the tubing and insert the battery.

After removing the hearing aid, it is recommended to go to the ear department to check the rubbish inside the ear with an otoscope speculum and to take it out with foreign body removal forceps, needle holder forceps and ear scissors.

1. Clean hearing aids at least twice a week. Since hearing aids are easily contaminated by dirt and bacteria, it is necessary to keep them clean regularly and professionally clean the hearing aids on a regular basis. Do not scrub with water because water will damage the hearing aids. Especially in-ear hearing aids should be cleaned at least twice a week. Use a soft dry cloth to clean the surface, use a brush to remove ear wax around the sound holes and vents, and replace with new baffles in time.

2. Anti-moisture, anti-vibration, anti-high temperature. Put the hearing aid in a box with a desiccant at night and do not place it in direct sunlight. Be careful not to break the wire of the box-type hearing aid, do not break the earphone, and do not poke the microphone with a sharp and hard screwdriver. In-ear hearing aids should be worn and removed carefully, and do not fall on hard objects. Sweat can cause great damage to BTE hearing aids. Be careful to wipe the hearing aids with a soft dry cloth to ensure that the sound outlets, sound channels, and vents are unobstructed. Do not try to repair the hearing aids yourself.

3. Check the battery level regularly. When the amplification ability of the hearing aid drops or noise occurs, you should immediately check whether the battery is sufficient, otherwise it will affect the normal use of the hearing aid, and the battery should be replaced in time. BTE hearing aids use button batteries, and the qualified product life should be about 200 hours. When the hearing aid is not used for a long time, the battery should be removed and placed in a cool and ventilated place.

For the hearing aid removal part, the precision instruments used are ear wax remover forceps, ear forceps 8 mm, blunt tip medical scissors, and instrument clamp.

If there are problems with the elderly hearing aids during use, such as silent, low noise, whistling, etc., the users will not handle it. It is best not to mess around and bring the hearing aid to a professional fitting center for repair.
